🌿 Healing aspects of playing piano 1 🎹

♪  Playing piano lowers the stress hormone (cortisol) and decreases anxiety and depression, a finding well-supported by research.

The research discovered that seniors who took piano lessons for six months reported a considerable decrease in depression, mental distress, and tiredness compared to the group that did not take lessons in the Journal of Music Therapy by Creech et al. in 2013.

Another research reported that 30 min. of piano playing greatly reduced cortisol levels and lowered anxiety more successfully than other artistic endeavours including clay molding or calligraphy in the International Journal of Music Education by Toyoshima et al. in 2011.

When you play the piano, dopamine (the brain's reward system, the feel-good chemical) and serotonin (a mood stabilizer that promotes feelings of happiness and calmness, and also regulating sleep, digestion, blood clotting, and wound healing) are released.

Also playing slow, meditative pieces can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which slows heart rate and blood pressure, and can be helpful for managing mood and stress.

Singing and Piano lessons are offered in Nanoose Bay, serving Parksville, Nanaimo, Qualicum Beach, and Ladysmith areas in BC.
